Joy Collaborative - Joy Rooms for Youth with Life-Limiting Conditions
Joy Collaborative creates environments for youth with life-limiting conditions.
It’s a partnership of dynamic doers and givers – designers, architects, and builders; donors, volunteers, and sponsors – who come together to transform youth's personal spaces.
When children have health conditions out of their control and are stuck at home, they can succumb to feelings of boredom, depression, and isolation. By creating a unique space based on the child’s needs and wants, the room gives them some control back and provides inspiration and joy.
Recently, Joy Collaborative brought together a group of volunteers to create a room for Bennett, who has Spina Bifida. This joy room is named Bennett’s Park because he is a huge fan of baseball and will provide the needed respite for Bennett’s family and friends’ time. There were over 50 passionate volunteers who helped make this room a home run!
“It’s still amazing to me, even years into this, how people rise up. They raise their hand faster than I can even get the question out and are already on board to help. When we get done, they always ask if they can help with the next one.”, says Mark Ostrom, Founder of Joy Collaborative.
