Firefighters for Healing — Spotlight

"WE HAVE A PASSION FOR COMPASSION"

Minneapolis firefighter, Jake LaFerriere, suffered 3rd and 4th degree burns in a backdraft explosion while battling a house fire in 2010. While Jake was in the hospital he was inspired by young children who were being treated for injuries. He later founded Firefighters for Healing with the mission of supporting children and burn victims and survivors in ways insurance companies are unable to.

Not only does Firefighters for Healing raise money for burn victims, their families, and local burn units, they also put on fun events and have campaigns to bring joy, support, and hope for children and their families. But that's not all, they also support local firefighters and fire departments.

CAMP RED
Camp RED is for burn survivors between the ages of 6-15 years old. Kids will come to this camp surrounded by others with the same experiences. Campers will create friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

Their wish is to make Camp RED an even bigger success than last year!

Vision 2020
Firefighters for Healing has a capital campaign called Vision 2020 to build a Transitional Care Facility. The foundation discovered a need for burn victims and families of the victims who need to be transported to a trauma center and have no plans for where they will stay or what they need while they are away. The Firefighter for Healing Transitional Care Facility will be state of the art facility for patients, their families, and firefighters to call a temporary home.

Families: Provide accommodations for the relatives of survivors so they have a comfortable place to stay when staying with/visiting loved ones.
Survivors: This transitional care facility will allow survivors time to adjust into their new normal level of activity and mobility before heading home.
Firefighters: Provide accommodations for any Firefighter from anywhere in the state of Minnesota who is receiving care in the Twin Cities for any reason.

Red Tie Gala
The Red Tie Gala is a fundraiser for Firefighters for Healing and has sold out each year. The 4th annual Red Tie Gala will be held on October 13th 2018!
